About Us It's Cal Tjader meets Stereolab meets Brazil 66 in a bar in Berlin. Drink up people--it's LUSHY! Bossa beat flavored alterna-pop that goes down nice and easy. Lounge-y and danceable with hints of exotica and a touch of electronica...nutty and hip...intriguing and soothing--must see live! Lushy concocts a refreshing pop style that blends original samples and Bossa beats with elements of vintage-Latin jazz, exotica, surf, new wave, sixties pop and French pop to create their own distinctive intercontinental sound. Most importantly, they have established a solid reputation for originality far beyond their roots in the lounge and exotica scene. What started as a lighthearted recording session among friends has now turned into a lasting and successful project. In the basement tiki den, with fully stocked cocktail bar, that is their studio, Lushy was formed and began compiling an extensive catalog of original songs. With an internationally distributed CD on Dionysus Records and scores of successful gigs from Vancouver BC to Los Angeles, Lushy has steadily risen through the ranks of Seattle’s musical landscape. Led by the powerful and dynamic vocalist Annabella Kirby and musical mastermind Andy Sodt, Lushy holds sway over every stage they inhabit. With the addition of laptop-wizard extraordinaire and bassist Miss DJ Lu and veteran Seattle guitarist Garth Brandenburg, they are poised to take the band to the next inevitable stage. Meet the band members… Andy Sodt: Keyboards, Melodica, Saxophones, Flute, Pianorgani, and Timbales, Cocktail kit. The musical mastermind behind Lushy, Andy has played in many bands over the years from Sazerac Sextet to SKA bands Tiny Hat Orchestra, Notables, and Tokyo's Monkey Business. His music has appeared on television and film from PBS productions to The Sopranos. Annabella Kirby: Vocals, Clarinet. The daughter of a Kansas City jazz musician and Italian bohemian, Annabella spent her childhood listening to Brazilian, French and Italian pop records from the 1960's. She has taken those early influences and combined them with her own soulful imagination to become Lushy's chanteuse. Lunarre Omura: Laptop, Bass, Percussion. The fabulous Miss DJ Lu is from the beautiful island of Oahu. Her refined taste and technical wizardry transports the Lushy sound into the 21st century. Lunarre also plays in the sake-fueled Buttersprites. Garth Brandenburg: Guitar. Garth has played with a number of prominent Seattle bands including The Nitecaps and The Crows. Garth's golden ears and smooth snaking solos are the perfect sonic match for Lushy. |
